orange sky

Spring is trying on different coats, hand out the window, one foot in the door, deciding. The sky heats up and the rains come down and it seems that everything is in its right place. However off they were yesterday, however silly the grievance, it comes together for a while and you realize that time is only the ebb and flow of right and wrong. Salvation is the warm body next to you as the wind whips the trees into a frenzy that is fascinating because you are safe, held and anchored, tied to the warmth.

My skin still smells of you despite the scrubbing. You slip between my ribs and kiss me- goosebumps from the inside.

your brother said your mother was a firefly you buried in the earth

I woke up to gray skies melting towards a glowing dusk, the day was already old. The warm wind wakes the frozen ground and calls me down; the sea is back in my hair and the air tastes of salt and storms to come. Warm skin smells like lily of the valley and I am clean clean clean once more

Spring is beginning to come round again, at least here by the sea, now that I'm out of the mountains for a while. I'm back home for a quick vacation, of the mind and of the heart- it's surprising how much coming home can mean; how much it brings back what once was.

you could love me

Miss says I’m wasting away. I tried to explain that my stomach is full; I can’t eat.  It would do no good to explain that my heart dropped down and it’s sitting there, there’s no more room for food.
It’s been since your last visit, on that leave they gave you.  I didn’t know how to greet you after your last letter, but I couldn’t help but hope.  I waited in the rain for you that day, I know you weren’t pleased when you saw me soaked to the skin.  Your smile didn’t reach your eyes.
Please just cut me loose. Since I can’t stand the waiting I tried to sit it, but that didn’t work either. It rained like that again yesterday, and I took your last letter outside with me. Now we’re both soggy.

static

The winds came and with them a quiet. The constant static of the drops hitting tin roofs formed a sort of white noise that made thought unnecessary. She knew she had to leave
Maybe I'll fill up with rain and it won't matter whether I'm wearing boots or not.

This strange saltwater rain- and then I'll always carry the ocean in my curls.

november please be good to me

I was thinking of you and I looked out. Saw two people kissing in the rain.

The month is gray fog over the valley and cold rain. It's a quiety time. I'd like nothing more than to curl up close to you because you're always warm.

salt and lavender

Woke this morning before the blackbird sang to walk by the sea no soul in sight just the wet on the grass and clouds pressing close. Summer shifts the winds and blows salt through my hair, so happy to be free she flirts and teases and weeps for joy. My hair curls in the damp, tossed and tumbled and blown awry, I must find a hat before the sun comes back.

Went to school looking like a wild child, the smell of the ocean on my skin. The day calls for lavender tea and a spot in the corner chair with pages to turn. Today I'm dreaming of loves lost at sea and girls with tousled curls who wait in white in the cellophane rain, and soldiers with straight backs and bright eyes who smell of tobacco and salt air.

mademoiselle la pluie

Hello there rain, I suppose you had to come back sometime didn't you?

Here you are an old man who likes to keep the sun abed, but in lilting tilting french you are a young girl eager to make the world grow.
I don't know which of you I like better-
The you who cautions me warm and safe back to my bed and lets me curl up with silky black coffee
Or the you who takes my chin and tilts it up with loving fingers so that my face is awash with the new
Maybe I just love you

P.s. The mists are back. Please guide the ships home to harbour and don't let the one crash into the jetty like last time.

slowing

it rained today and the library leaked. my mind leaked too a little, but the windows sprang open and the wind carried the sea. the downpour was incredible, the world turned white from pelting rain. did you know that the Earth's rotation slows a little each year from Dust in the atmosphere? one day it will stop entirely. we would spend six months in darkness and six months in light. from something as tiny as specks of Dust.

I ran up to the third floor of the school today and climbed out the window onto the roof. you can see the sea and the smell hit me harder than the droplets of rain and the wind caught my hair and tried to run away with it. the clouds tossed and turned but I hid behind the bell tower and nobody saw me in the midst of the tempest. it was easing up out over the water and patchy sunlight struck the waves, sending up a brilliant, blinding light. I was safe until the sun struck me. then I got down and went to class.

sunday is of

Sunday is of:
~ hot chai tea
~ rain tapping pat pat pat on the roof
~ wrapped up in the warmest sweater of all and the jeans that have seen this life
~ a good book and a good pen to scribble in the margins
~ bright red fire wet leaves slapped against my window
~ boxes of old photographs that smell of memory
~ and I hide from the day, from the cold, from the icy rain with a gold locket and key around my neck around my heart

listening to this over and over and over and over

wild adventures

ADVENTURE OF THE WEEK

This morning I woke up at 2am because it started raining. Now normally I'd love that- laying in bed listening to the drops rush down my windows and roof- but instead, i threw myself out of bed and raced outside in the pitch black to close the sunroof of my car. Dumb move leaving it open- yes.

But it didn't get too too wet and it was somewhat/mostly dry by morning... life has ways of making itself interesting whenever things get too normal...

On a totally unrelated note, I am BEYOND excited for Where the Wild Things Are to come out!!!! It was one of my favorite books as a kid and just hearing the lines brongs back memories- can't wait for Spike Jonze's interpretation!

I must have it on the mind because i found myself doodling in a notepad during class and what came out was the picture at the top of the page (i used whiteout to make the clouds and sail) It made me think of Max and how I wish I could go exploring just like him.

Oh well... I guess I'll just have to create my own adventures!

a silver chain of rain

Tell me how many beads there are
In a silver chain
Of evening rain
Unraveled from the tumbling main
And threading the eye of a yellow star:
- So many times do I love again.
~Thomas Lovell Beddoes

It rained today. I went to class in rain and I came home in rain. On the third floor which looks out of ancient windows onto the roof, the seething purple clouds provided endless distraction from Calculus (quite welcome) and it rained through English Lit, the drops providing a soothing counterpoint to the analysis of The Power and the Glory- Graham Greene anyone?

Having little to when when I got home (for once...) and with visions of raindrops in my head I set out to photograph my garden that will soon be gone thanks to autumn

And a lovely spiderweb- I love how raindrops and dew cling to each strand

And then I got to go back to my cozy little room and read my books with a nice cup of tea and some toast! Who could ask anything more of a rainy day?
